PORTRAIT 2:3. A CO₂ cylinder bank in the fire-fighting room, the bank filling the middle band and its distribution pipework running up out of frame. Quiet bulkhead or deckhead above. A technician weighing a cylinder with a load cell at centre height, hands visible. Lower band: the rest of the bank and the deck. Cylinder labels may be legible; no other brand marks, no approval plates.

PORTRAIT 2:3. Shot from the embarkation deck looking up: a lifeboat turned out on its davits, falls under tension. Open sky or hull plate across the top band. The boat and the on-load release gear together in the middle band — release gear is the subject, not scenery. Lower band: the davit arms down to their deck foundations. No certificate or approval plate legible.

PORTRAIT 2:3. A bridge console at night, shot square-on. Dark deckhead and window frame across the top. Radar and ECDIS screens filling the middle band, lit and showing a real display, not a demo loop. Lower band: the console desk, the VDR junction unit or the conning position. No vessel name or IMO number legible on any screen.

PORTRAIT 2:3. A mast head against overcast sky, VHF and MF/HF antennas stacked up the frame — the sky IS the quiet top band here, so let it run. Antennas and their mounts through the middle. Lower band: the mast structure and rigging. Alternative if the mast is not available: a GMDSS console with the DSC controller centred and the EPIRB in its float-free bracket below it.

PORTRAIT 2:3. A calibration bench shot from slightly above. Quiet wall or bench back across the top. Middle band: a multi-gas detector being calibrated, with the reference gas cylinder and regulator standing directly behind it and a technician's hands on the instrument. Lower band: the bench, the tubing, the case. The reference standard's certificate may be present but must be out of focus and unreadable, and no accreditation logos in frame.

PORTRAIT 2:3. An open main switchboard, busbars running vertically through the whole frame. Quiet panel or deckhead above. Middle band: a technician framing a termination through a thermal-imaging camera, the thermogram visible on the camera screen — camera and screen both in the middle band. Lower band: the permit-to-work and the isolation locks on the panel.

PORTRAIT 2:3. A surveyor at a vessel's rail, shot from behind the shoulder. Sky and sea across the top band. Middle band: the hands, the clipboard and the report, sharp and centred. Lower band: the deck and the ship's side falling away. Any vessel name, IMO number or certificate number must be redacted or dressed, and no stamped certificate may be readable.

PORTRAIT 2:3. A provision crane at full radius, the jib rising through the top of the frame against open sky. Middle band: the water-bag load-test weight on the hook with the load cell inline — the load cell is the subject. Lower band: the crane pedestal and its SWL plate, which may be legible. No approval or class plate in frame.
